Regular Registration
A person of school age shall be deemed to reside in the school division with a parent. ("Parent" or "parents" means any parent, guardian, legal custodian, or other person having control or charge of a child, and living within the school district not solely for educational purposes.ยง 22.1-1.)
At least three forms of identification must be supplied to verify residence status:
- Current Virginia State Driver's License
- Current Virginia State Identification Card
- Current valid Virginia vehicle registration or vehicle title
- Current original signed lease agreement or mortgage documentation
- Current original water, gas, or electric department invoice
- State or federal tax return filed within the past 12 months with W2 form(s) attached
- Current original tax assessment statement
- Current voter registration card
- Picture ID (must include name and current address)
- Check stub from current employment (must provide 2 months)
- Homeowners' Insurance Policy
- Medical Bills (must include name and current address for 3 months)
- Social Security/Social Services documentation that includes name and current address
ADDITIONAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- The student must present a certified copy of his/her birth certificate. If a certified copy of the student's birth certificate cannot be obtained, the parent must submit an affidavit giving the student's age and explaining the inability to present a certified copy of the birth record.
B. Prior to admission, the student must document compliance with, or eligibility for exemption from, the immunization requirements contained in Sections 32.1-46, 22.1-271.2 and 22.1-271.4 of the Code of Virginia and Policy JHCB.
Special Education Registration
If the student enrolling at Dan River High is currently identified as a Special Education student, in addition to the steps above parent(s) must also bring a current copy of the child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) from the previous school in which the child was enrolled. After the registration appointment with the Principal, parent(s) will also be asked to make an appointment with the Guidance and Special Education Departments to complete further information.
