As one of four high schools in Pittsylvania County, the Dan River High School Wildcats have much to boast about. The Wildcats have made Adequate Yearly Progress, achieving the very stringent requirements as passed in the No Child Left Behind legislation. Dan River High is also Fully Accredited according to the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessments.
The Wildcats also host the following State Championship Teams:
- 2017 2A State Baseball Championship team. This is the second time in history for the school.
- 2014 2A State Basketball Championship team. This is the first time in history for the school.
- 2006 AA State Softball Championship team. This is the first time in history a Pittsylvania County school has won a Softball State Championship.
- 1998 AA State Baseball Championship. This is the first time in history for the school.
